First snow this season

"When men are inhuman, take care not to feel towards them as they do towards other humans." - Marcus Aurelius

The snow is here again.  I had just put up the snow marker stakes so that I don't ram anything buried under the snow while plowing.  It sucks to hit a stump or a concrete slab.  It's bone-jarring, and pretty tough on the plow and truck.

The truck is at the mechanic's shop, getting the water pump replaced.  I have no desire to deal with draining coolant, working in tight quarters from on top of the engine, and dealing with used antifreeze.  All of that with limited free time.  So the mechanic will get that job.  I already rounded up the parts he will need, as well as his bonus, a 12 pack of Sierra Pale Ale.

The dog enjoys the snow quite a bit - I don't think there's any part of the yard she hasn't disturbed the snow in!

Today I had to plug in the heat strips.  All houses lose a little heat through the roof.  This slowly melts snow that accumulates on the roof.  However once it reaches the overhang, there is no longer heat, and it tends to freeze there, adding weight and damaging the roof and rain gutters.  The heaters keep the overhang and rain gutter from freezing, allowing the melt-water to drain off.

Below:  Before the heat strips were plugged in, then again after about 2 hours.
