"Wealth is able to buy the pleasures of eating, drinking and other sensual pursuits-yet can never afford a cheerful spirit or freedom from sorrow." - Gaius Musonius Rufus

You may or may not have heard on the news or read about this - it's a bit old, and was greatly overshadowed by the Covid pandemic.  The truth of the matter is pretty embarrassing to the security state - not that they have any sense of shame, even when they screw something up this badly.

The Chinese intelligence services have gained access to the networks of all the major US telecommunication companies, in an operation named "Salt Typhoon".  This means that most of our communications - phone calls, emails, text messages, etc, etc, etc - are no longer secure from foreign surveillance.  Thus the sturm und drang by the government and the media (same thing, really) over Huawei, the manufacturer of internet switches and other major telecom hardware.

Here are a few older articles that mention this issue:

 CNN

Business Insider (requests a trial to read the article)

Wall Street Journal (same)

Fox Business News

The most informative article on this Chinese infiltration of our telecom companies is the one below.  They don't avoid or ignore the truth:  The Chinese got access because the US security state insisted that they have a "backdoor" to all our information in the first place.

Thus the Chinese only had to turn one intelligence person, or figure out one password, and they were into our networks.  As I said, these people should be deeply ashamed.  The press is acting like there wasn't a built-in vulnerability at the insistence of law enforcement or spooks, who just want the ability to snoop on the innocent (and perhaps sometimes the guilty).  These are very suspicious people in charge of our security.  Unfortunately they seem more suspicious of ordinary Americans than they are of foreign governments :)

Anyway here is the article that describes the debacle better than most of the broader media is going to do:

Reason - Read it and weep.

Also, Don't say we weren't warned. LOL.
