Cleaning up the property

I had five or six red fir trees die over this past winter.  They never fell over, so a couple of weeks ago, I and some friends felled them.  That left me to do the clean-up.

It was a pretty big mess to clean up.

This was after about 2 hours solid (like out-of-breath solid) work.

Second load of branches in the truck, just a little raking remaining.

Same scene, different view.  The wood will go to an elderly neighbor who heats with wood.

Just as it was, but with fewer dead trees cluttering up the place!

Time to get rid of the branches and release my inner pyro...

It's amazing the difference between a spring and autumn burn.  In the springtime, you have to use diesel just to light it, and stuff the propane torch in the center of the pile for several minutes.  In the fall, after summer has dried everything out, it gets big and scary really fast.  It took about 10 seconds with the torch to light this.
