Winter prep is done, and just in time.  Our first mild snowstorm has come and gone, leaving behind some very cool temperatures.  The plow is on, the stakes are set up to avoid collisions with unpleasantness beneath the snow, and the wasp traps are in.

The Tamarack trees are really glorious right now, but they will be bare soon.

Below:  Not the McWoods, fortunately.  I do keep the trees limbed up and thinned out, and the undergrowth removed, for fire reasons.

One of my co-workers just earned his pilot license, and has been flying near the plant occasionally.  He bought a Zenith 750 STOL.  It can take off in 300 ft (100 m) or so.  The stall speed is an amazing 30 mph (46 kph).  Below:  This is not him, this is a STOL competition - but it is the same aircraft.

Below:  An uninvited and hungry guest arrived yesterday.  This cow moose took out both bird feeders, then chewed on a lilac for a while - at a higher level than where the deer have already chewed. 

Below:  Aftermath.  Both bird feeder hooks were pulled off the posts.  Two of the screws were simply sheared in half and remain in the post.

Oh yeah - my new digs at work... feels weird as hell working in an office, and worrying about other people's problems.  Heh, guess that's what a day shift gig is all about!

It's time to keg the beer that we made in September.  I'll see about that and maybe some work on the old truck this weekend.  Cheers!
