The other day I was reading about an interesting series of mouse experiments performed in the 1960's by a behavioral scientist named John B. Calhoun. He built several "mouse utopias" - enclosures in which all of their needs were met, and all of their problems were eliminated. The results were startling.
I don't have anything to add to this fascinating story, so I'll just provide a link.
Calhoun's research into the Behavioral Sink would seem to apply to modern societies, and he himself encouraged the comparisons.
