"What society does to its children, so will its children do to society." Marcus Tullius Cicero
I spotted this article (link) recently whilst doing my bathroom reading:
I previously made my opinion known on several possible reasons why there is a shortage of people willing to volunteer for military service. TL;DR - The drawbacks of military service currently far outweigh any benefits. I also believe it's likely that mandating young people to serve in the military would backfire spectacularly. I doubt that many kids would bother to respond to a draft notice these days - and that doesn't even take into account in what manner their parents might intervene in such a situation.
Are the authorities slowly beginning to grasp the idea that they no longer have the consent of the governed and are gradually beginning to panic? I don't know, but their behavior seems consistent with that thesis.
As a reminder, nobody has attempted diplomacy in this current NATO-Russian Federation proxy war, so apparently no one in power wants peace. As usual, those who most deeply desire the conflict to continue have no skin in the game. It's other, lesser people who are expected to fight, be maimed, or die - not them.
I'd like to humbly suggest that those who support continuing the hostilities in Ukraine be the first to sacrifice themselves (and/or their children) for such a worthy cause. Anyone with that country's flag on their Facebook or Twitter Bio should be the very first ones drafted - along with their progeny. That seems fitting. This isn't football, and that's not the same thing as wearing your favorite team's jersey.
Lawn-sign and bumper sticker people who support war should go fight it. Send your children off to march through a mine field in some obscure country. There's no need to involve other people's children - send your own! A bumper sticker doesn't seem like enough level of support.
All is quiet on the western front. After you!
Let me know how that Draft thing works out, and don't forget to ponder today's stoic quote.
