Another Aurora Borealis fail

"The point of modern propaganda isn't only to misinform you or push an agenda.  It is to exhaust your critical thinking, to annihilate the truth." - Garry Kasparov (chess grand master)

Once again the northern lights came, and once again the viewing was less than optimal.  Below are the series of alerts that were blowing up my phone most of the night.

I kept checking the satellite view of the expected aurora locations, and it looked very promising.

However, there were two issues with viewing it.  First off, I was at work that night - in a place with lighting that is brighter than a Wal-Mart parking lot.  More problematic was the weather.  Full overcast with intermittent rain showers.  Below is the view on the way in to work that night.  Not looking good.

Below:  Later on, while at work.

Meanwhile some guy way down in south Texas was able to get a picture of it... Between work, weather, smoke, and full moons, viewing these events is getting a bit discouraging, to be honest.  It's a bit sad when you would have better Northern Lights viewing in California than in Idaho.  Maybe we should have stayed in Ridgecrest for better aurora viewing!  Nope.  Nope.  Nope.

  1. Viewing the aurora is on my bucket list. The family and I will be heading out on a 7-day Alaska cruise in a few days and I'm very hopeful we'll see the aurora during the cruise.
