Rick Beato's very cool YouTube Channel

A couple of days ago I discovered the channel of Rick Beato (pronounced Be-Otto)

I went on a binge watching quite a few of his videos - they are incredibly interesting.  I'm hooked on watching his videos and I don't even understand music theory that he discusses.  It's clear he is an avid music lover - and he really shares that on his vids.

He has a series of videos he calls "What Makes This Song Great?", where he analyzes a particular song, and shares what makes each one interesting or special.  It's a pretty neat series of videos, because he has the equipment to break a song down to its individual tracks (guitar, drums, vocals, bass) and show how the musicians, song-writers, and producers made good songs.

He is more impressed with older music, because those songs were produced before digitization and micro-manipulation of the recording was possible.  Back in the day, music had to be well-played and recorded on tape, and you got what you got.  Nowadays, poor timing can be adjusted with a few mouse clicks, and there is auto-tune to adjust off-key playing and singing, so musician skill was far more important back then.

Anyway, here is a link to one of his videos.  In this one, he has been analyzing the song "Kid Charlemagne" by Steely Dan, and is about to play along with the guitar solo by Larry Carlton.  Take a listen here!

Below is the entire video analyzing "Kid Charlemagne".

In the video below, he analyzes "Limelight" by Rush:

Yet another.  "Go Your Own Way" by Fleetwood Mac:

And "Rosanna" by Toto

This is just a sample of the large number of videos he's made discussing music, and what makes the songs catchy or really original and unique.  Cool stuff!!!
